Welcome back & Instrument Information

Welcome back to school after what was hopefully a relaxing summer vacation.  I have been moved schools from Bethune and Faith North to Bethune and Lowell.  I am excited to be working at Lowell this year, and I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year at both schools!

Instruments are currently being distributed to students at both schools; however, Lowell has a severe shortage of instruments.  Many of the students at Lowell will have to share an instrument with another student, and switch off, having the instrument every other week.  We hope to borrow instruments from other schools, but this may not be possible this year, as many other schools are short on instruments as well.

If you would like to rent an instrument for your child to play instead of having them share, there are a few music stores around Phoenix, with reasonable prices.  Most also have rent to own programs, where you can pay a small amount per month to rent ($15-30, depending on the instrument), until the instruments value is paid, then the instrument is yours to keep.  If you are going to rent an instrument, the rent-to-own programs are the best way to go.  Some of the music stores have rent to own and some don't.  Some rent-to-own gives a discount, some pays for 100% of the cost of the instrument.

Great Job at the Concerts

Great job, everybody!
You all did a wonderful job at your concerts, I got so many compliments from parents and teachers at both Bethune and Faith North!  Great work!!!

Now we will be working on district festival music for the next two months, so if you have been given festival music, it's time to start practicing it!

Have a wonderful, restful, and fun two weeks off!

Videos from the concerts will be posted when we get back from break.

Welcome Back from Break

Hope everybody had a restful break and a great Thanksgiving!

Concert time is almost here, with Bethune's concert December 9th (next Tuesday!!!) and Faith North's concert December 15th.   It is time to start practicing so you are ready and comfortable with your music.  The more prepared you are, the less stressful a concert is.

Concert Do's and Do Not's

DO:
Check your instrument to make sure it works the day before the concert.  If it doesn't work, or you need a reed or oil, make sure to ask Ms. Laskowski the Day Before, not the Day Of the concert.

DO NOT:
Wait until 30 minutes before the concert to see if your instrument plays or not.  If you do this, it will be too late for Ms. Laskowski to help!

DO:
Give any permission slips or flyers to parents at least the week before the concert, so they know all about it.

DO NOT:
Wait until the day of or the day before to let your parent know about the concert.

DO:
Practice a LOT, and ask Ms. Laskowski for help if you don't understand your music.

DO NOT:
Give up and don't bother to practice because "it's too hard".  You can do this!

DO:
Check and see if your instrument is in tune while you are in the classroom.  Wind players- if your instrument is cold, it will sound out of tune.  Blow warm air into the mouthpiece (without making noise) every few minutes as you are waiting, and on the way to the cafeteria.

DO NOT: ask Ms. Laskowski to tune it while you are up on stage.

DO:  Have fun, do your best, and be confident!!  You will do great!
